Brill's disdain for all things VT goes back way further

I remember my older brother giving me a newspaper when I was about 10 years old (and already a Hokie fan) and telling me to read Bill Brill's column. It was one of what became his usual VT bashing columns, and it always smelled of that supposed Tobacco Road superiority that permeated the ACC ack then. This was over 50 years ago. You read Bill Brill to get your blood going in the morning. A man VT fans loved to hate, and he happily reciprocated.

You are correct that Bill Brill said VT would never win an ACC championship in anything during his lifetime when VT joined in 2003, then promptly gave a footnote to say "in anything but football" after VT took home the ACC football championship their inaugural season in the league. Of course, he was wrong again, but he never lost that smug irritation that VT was allowed to sully his ACC in his eyes like they did.
